Located in Crickhowell, Powys, Arts Alive Wales is an educational arts charity that organises creative workshops, projects and events, to provide opportunities for children, young people and the vulnerable in particular.
Designing a whole host of promotional items for these amazing projects and events over the years, I have been fortunate enough to work alongside the brilliant team at AAW and watch first hand at their growth and evolution into the amazing organisation it is today.
After successfully retaining Welsh Government funding for the next three years, it was decided that AAW’s current brand would need a re-vamp, in particular its quarterly programme, which was to become a bilingual publication. The team wanted to capture the essence of Crickhowell – its rural surroundings and creative essence without it becoming twee and old fashioned, instead creating a contemporary brand with spirit and personality that would draw in a new contemporary audience. To achieve this I softened their existing palette, toning down the over powering purple and grey and introduced a new typeface ‘DIN’. Photography would be employ close crops of artworks, workshops and the surrounding scenery. This re-styling was subsequently applied to advertising, posters and other touch points.

“Gillian has been working with us for 5 years on all our print publicity and has developed the distinctive high quality print publicity for which Arts Alive Wales is now known and admired. We continue to receive compliments, praise and plaudits for the marketing tools created by Gillian and as a visual arts organisation, we really appreciate her instinctive understanding of our style and her consistency. Gillian is also highly efficient, responsive and offers a great all round service from design to print that helps enormously in a small staff team. We would recommend her without hesitation.”
